Mathurin Méheut est l'un des artistes emblématiques de la Bretagne. Peintre, décorateur, graveur, illustrateur, il a dépeint la Bretagne au plus près de ses habitants et de leurs coutumes. Il a aussi décoré de nombreux paquebots, créé des menus pour la maison Prunier ainsi qu'illustré de nombreux ouvrages aujourd'hui très recherché des bibliophiles.
De sa rencontre avec Colette va naître un bel ouvrage édité en 1929: Regarde
Le homard bleu est l'illustration iconique de cet ouvrage consacré à la faune marine de l'Estran breton.
